Quest for Happiness: Week Sixteen

Hello, friends!

Considering it snowed both days over the weekend, during mid-April, I’m a little peeved at the weather right now, especially after last week was so nice. It doesn’t look like it will be nearly as nice this week, but I’m hopeful that we can soon experience a little bit of spring, instead of being stuck in this perpetual stubborn winter or skipping straight into a miserably hot summer.

Long-Term Goal: Write two new books and edit two books. Enter the query trenches.

Last Week’s Goal: Write 5x.

  • Status: Affirmative, Commander. Last week was mainly spent looking through the previous attempt I had at this book…and being surprised at how the first 20,000 words were actually pretty dang good. I ended up deleting the next 15,000 or so, because I made a switch in the plot, making those words impossible to use, so I had two days where I started writing completely from scratch. I won’t lie: I was a little nervous to start writing again, especially after going through and just being able to edit a bit, here or there. But I’m excited to continue this story and see where it takes me.

Weekly Goal: Write 5x. Look into writing contests/magazines to submit short stories into.

Reading
Long-Term Goal: Read every day, finishing up some old series and keeping up with new ones.

Last Week’s Goal: Read 5x. Write review. Go by the library.

  • Status: Affirmative, Commander. Though I didn’t finish the review for The Search for the Red Dragon, I did finish the book in two or three days and have already started the third one. Though I snagged a couple books from the library that I’ll have to read, so I don’t lose them thanks to unrenewable due dates, thus interrupting my James A. Owen streak, I’m really excited to be reading these books again. They’re fantastic.

Weekly Goal: Read 5x. Write review (x2?).

Fitness
Long-Term Goal: Continue living a healthy lifestyle and shaping a body I love and am proud of.

Last Week’s Goal: Workout 5x.

  • Status: Negative, Commander. So, I really like this new routine I figured out. I only worked out three times last week, thanks to my boyfriend having Thursday off work, so we spent time together, and then just being lazy on Friday, but I do enjoy the new setup I got: strength training MWF, running TR and then also going for a walk while catching up on the phone with my friend on Wednesday afternoons. I’m excited to do this consistently and see how my body responds, before I start fine-tuning the routine to best fit what I want to accomplish.

Weekly Goal: Workout 5x. Eat more fruits and veggies.

Financial
Long-Term Goal: Learn to have a healthy relationship with money and build my savings.

Weekly Goal: Stay frugal.

  • Status: Affirmative, Commander.

Weekly Goal: Pay off credit card.

Spiritual
Long-Term Goal: Reconnect with God and grow personally to live more like Jesus.

Last Week’s Goal: Pray.

  • Status: Affirmative, Commander.

Weekly Goal: Pray.

Carpe Diem
Long-Term Goal: Find a reason to smile every day and something to get excited about weekly.

Last Week’s Goal: Get back into the routine and have fun celebrating my boyfriend’s birthday this weekend!

  • Status: Affirmative, Commander. Birthday celebrations were awesome. I did a cheesy surprise for my boyfriend, decorating the kitchen, and that was really fun. Also got to get lunch with my Mom and see my Dad/sister for a hot minute over the weekend, so that really nice, too.

Weekly Goal: Stay positive minded and enjoy the process, every day.Image result for elegant page break clip artI think the focus this week will be a combination of maximizing my time, while also enjoying the process. I definitely plan on writing a blog post about this, too, so if you want some more in-depth thoughts on what I mean by that, be sure to come back and check it out! But basically, I want to stop wasting the time that I have, especially when I don’t have as much on my plate as I usually do, and enjoy everything that I’m currently working on, especially related to these goals.

Cheers.

Quest for Discovery: Week Fifteen

Hello, friends!

Last week was a little weird. The weather went back to being shit, so combined with that and my tattoo healing, I didn’t work out at all and it was gloomy, rainy and cold. So while I played Fallout whenever I wasn’t working (like, a lot of Fallout) and I enjoyed that, I am definitely itching to get back into the groove of things. I’m hoping–against hope, it seems, since it snowed again today–that the weather will cooperate, as well, so I can stop getting bummed about the cold and instead start enjoying being outside, wear cute clothes again and get back into running.

Long-Term Goal: Write two new books and edit two books. Enter the query trenches.

Last Week’s Goal: Decide what project I want to work on next.

  • Status: Affirmative, Commander. I have my next project picked out and found an old online that was actually a lot more helpful than I remembered coming up with, so that was both surprising and exciting! I also got some more worldbuilding fleshed out, so I’m excited to start writing this week, even if some of that writing includes working through the material I wrote before in the previously shelved draft.

Weekly Goal: Write 5x.

Reading
Long-Term Goal: Read every day, finishing up some old series and keeping up with new ones.

Last Week’s Goal: Write review. Pick out a new book to read!

  • Status: Affirmative, Commander. I chose to reread Here, There by Dragons by James A. Owen. It’s been long enough that I couldn’t remember much of what had happened and I’m so excited to write a review over it, because I just fell completely in love in with all over again. I think, with the exception of a library book here and there coming in that I can’t wait to read, I might read the entire series all the way through and finally finish it.

Weekly Goal: Read 5x. Write review. Go by the library.

Fitness
Long-Term Goal: Continue living a healthy lifestyle and shaping a body I love and am proud of.

Last Week’s Goal: Break week, thanks to tattoo healing. Figure out the best way to balance strength training and cardio.

  • Status: Affirmative, Commander. The first couple days, it was nice to be lazy, but I am itching to get back into the routine of shaping the body want.

Weekly Goal: Workout 5x.

Financial
Long-Term Goal: Learn to have a healthy relationship with money and build my savings.

Weekly Goal: Frugalness is key!

  • Status: Affirmative, Commander.

Weekly Goal: Stay frugal.

Last Week’s Goal: Don’t give up too much of my soul to Fallout 4.

  • Status: Affirmative, Commander (depending on who you talk to, because I’m definitely obsessed with this game right now). Also had a great time seeing some family members I haven’t seen in years.

Weekly Goal: Get back into the routine and have fun celebrating my boyfriend’s birthday this weekend!Image result for elegant page break clip artThe weather looks like it’s finally going to be spring-like, this week, which I’m desperate for. I’m excited, too. I finally decided on a blend between strength training and cardio that I’m going to try out: strength training on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, while running on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, so I’m hitting both three times a week, with only one day where I’m working out for roughly 60 minutes instead of 30, doing both. I think it’ll be a good balance between the two and I’ll be active for at least 30 minutes every week day, which I think will also be good for me.

On top of that, I’m starting a new novel this week, titled BLOOD PRICE, and I’m excited to see where this novel takes me, especially because I plan on finishing it, this time.

Cheers.

Quest for Discovery: Week Fourteen

Hello, friends!

Last week was really lovely. I’m really jazzed that I managed to get up around 9am every single day (with the exception of one 10am sleep-in-session). I’ve found that I’m sleeping better (waking up less in the middle of the night and falling asleep sooner once I go to bed) and I love that I’ve been able to get all my workouts, showering, doing my hair, making dinner and video game relaxation in every single day, instead of rushing around. Really going to try and make this habit stick.

Last Week’s Goal:  Write 6x. Potentially finish first draft?!

  • Status: Affirmative, Commander. I only wrote four times…BECAUSE I FINISHED THE BOOK ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT. *still slightly freaking out about it*

Weekly Goal: Decide what project I want to work on next.

Reading
Long-Term Goal: Read every day, finishing up some old series and keeping up with new ones.

Last Week’s Goal: Workout 5x.

  • Status: Affirmative, Commander. I didn’t get to do as much cardio as I liked, thanks to a weirdly cloudy, drizzly and overall “blah” weather week, but I did get in some strength training and walks, so I’m still stoked about it.

Weekly Goal: Break week, thanks to tattoo healing. Figure out the best way to balance strength training and cardio.

Financial
Long-Term Goal: Learn to have a healthy relationship with money and build my savings.

Weekly Goal: Stay frugal, now that you’re caught up on birthday presents.

  • Status: Affirmative, Commander.

Weekly Goal: Don’t give up too much of my soul to Fallout 4.Image result for elegant page break clip artAfter last week was so dreary, I’m hoping for a little more sunshine and spring-like weather this week. Not sure if we’ll get that lucky, yet, but I’m itching for it. Really excited for April, though. I get to see some family I haven’t seen in a long time and get to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday. I’m really hopeful for more consistent pleasant weather so I can finally get my strength training and cardio routine settled and then start working towards that. I still have 10 stubborn pounds that won’t shed, but I’m determined. Also really stoked to decide what project I’m working on for the next three months, editing wise. I’m torn at the moment, so I’m hoping my Muse will show up and help guide me in the right direction.

Yeah, I’m just pretty stoked about life right now. Happy Easter, to all those who celebrate it!

Cheers.

Quest for Discovery: Week Thirteen

Hello, friends!

Last week was wonderful.

It was spring break at the university, so I got to work 8am-5pm instead of my traditional evening shifts and I loved it. I got to make dinner with my boyfriend every night after car-pooling with him and his friends to work. I got to see both my family and his, which was awesome (it’d been too long on both sides). I kept up my writing routine and completely fell off the wagon for my workout routine, but all in all?

I really wish I could work 8am-5pm every day.Image result for elegant page break clip art

Writing
Long-Term Goal: Write two new books and edit two books. Enter the query trenches.

Last Week’s Goal:  Write 6x. Continue meeting word count.

  • Status: Affirmative, Commander. I only wrote four times, thanks to some other things that came up, but I made up for the word count when I did write and it was just a really good writing week overall. Not only did I meet my word count, but I just felt excited about what I was writing about. Really, really excited about writing this week.

Weekly Goal: Write 6x. Potentially finish first draft?!

Reading
Long-Term Goal: Read every day, finishing up some old series and keeping up with new ones.

Last Week’s Goal: Read Heart on Fire.

  • Status: Affirmative, Commander. Gosh, this book is really good, so far. It’s been hard to stop reading it after each lunch break this week and I have a feeling that it won’t take too many more dinner breaks to see how Cait and Griffin’s story ends.

Weekly Goal: Finish Heart on Fire. Write review. Pick new book and go by library.

Fitness
Long-Term Goal: Continue living a healthy lifestyle and shaping a body I love and am proud of.

Last Week’s Goal: Workout during lunch breaks, if time (and weather) allows.

  • Status: Negative, Commander. I did go for a walk during one of my lunch breaks and it was amazing. But a few days were cold and rainy, which didn’t make it the best workout environment, yet I still could have tried a little harder to make that goal, last week. But perhaps it was a good break. Before last week, I’d wake up in the mornings, dreading having to get up and work out first thing. After not working out at all last week, I’m itching to wake up Monday morning and get back on the grind.

Weekly Goal: Workout 5x.

Financial
Long-Term Goal: Learn to have a healthy relationship with money and build my savings.

Weekly Goal: Pay bills for next month.

  • Status: Affirmative, Commander.

Weekly Goal: Stay frugal, now that you’re caught up on birthday presents.

Spiritual
Long-Term Goal: Reconnect with God and grow personally to live more like Jesus.

Last Week’s Goal: Pray.

  • Status: Affirmative, Commander. Switched up the time of day that I usually pray, thanks to the advice of a friend and definitely prayed a lot more last week than I have in a while.

Weekly Goal: Pray.

Carpe Diem
Long-Term Goal: Find a reason to smile every day and something to get excited about weekly.

Last Week’s Goal: Enjoy getting to work a regular schedule for once!

  • Status: Affirmative, Commander.

Weekly Goal: Get stoked about finally finishing this LOTR sleeve and continue enjoying March Madness.Image result for elegant page break clip artI’m most excited this week for writing and working out. Working out wise, I’m excited to get back into it, after taking practically a week off. I found myself missing it, which sorta surprised me, since I dread it half of the time when I’m getting up in the mornings (yet I love it after I’ve completed a good workout). Writing wise, if I really focus and buckle down, I could see myself finishing draft one of this novel this week, which would be…huge. Lots of chances to chase goals and conquer dreams, this week.

So let’s do it.

Cheers.

Quest for Discovery: Week Twelve

Hello, friends!

Last week wasn’t too bad at all. The weekend, particularly, was fantastic: went with the amazing boyfriend and friends to St. Louis, where we watched the Blues win (and my main man Pietrangelo scored twice), ate ice cream made with liquid nitrogen that was delicious, had a blast witnessing the St. Patrick’s Day shenanigans, enjoyed the madness that is March (busted brackets included) and just overall had a really lovely time escaping for the weekend. I’m really looking forward to more adventures like that.

Not a bad week meeting goals, either, I must say.

Writing
Long-Term Goal: Write two new books and edit two books. Enter the query trenches.

Last Week’s Goal:  Write 6x. Continue meeting word count.

  • Status: Affirmative, Commander. Almost at 70,000 words and the end is on the horizon, so close I can almost taste it…word count goal wise. Though I know I’m towards the end of the book, it feels like there is still a lot left to happen, based on my outline. But who knows, maybe I’ll write it quicker than I thought or it’ll all get summed up in 10,000 words, but my gut is telling me now that this book will be longer than 80,000 words for a first draft. We’ll see!

Weekly Goal: Write 6x. Continue meeting word count.

Reading
Long-Term Goal: Read every day, finishing up some old series and keeping up with new ones.

Last Week’s Goal:  Read Age of Myth. Write review. Go by library.

  • Status: Affirmative, Commander. I didn’t get the review written (but will write it this week!), since I finished the book late last week, before I went out of town, but it was a good read. I’m excited to continue the rest of the series. Already started reading another book that I’m just way too invested in (not looking forward to this trilogy ending in a mere 300 more pages, but I’m excited for it), so I’ll prolly fly through this one, too.

Weekly Goal: Read Heart on Fire.

Fitness
Long-Term Goal: Continue living a healthy lifestyle and shaping a body I love and am proud of.

Last Week’s Goal: Workout 5x, log food honestly and don’t eat like a fool on the weekend.

  • Status: Affirmative, Commander…sorta. I only worked out 3x last week and I didn’t think about going out of town as far as not eating so poorly on the weekends, but I’m still counting last week as a win, because I still worked out and ate pretty decently (including mixing up my usual dinner meals a little bit) amidst period week, which is always a challenge.

Weekly Goal: Workout during lunch breaks, if time (and weather) allows.

Financial
Long-Term Goal: Learn to have a healthy relationship with money and build my savings.

Weekly Goal: Stay frugal and start saving to move in August.

  • Status: Affirmative, Commander.

Weekly Goal: Pay bills for next month.

Spiritual
Long-Term Goal: Reconnect with God and grow personally to live more like Jesus.

Last Week’s Goal: Pray.

  • Status: Negative, Commander.

Weekly Goal: Pray.

Carpe Diem
Long-Term Goal: Find a reason to smile every day and something to get excited about weekly.

Last Week’s Goal: Have a blast in St. Louis and enjoy the three day weekend. But also, find ways to enjoy every day of the work week, too (including celebrating my Mom’s birthday!).

  • Status: Affirmative, Commander. Like I mentioned above, St. Louis was a blast. I also really enjoyed my day off last week where I got to see my family and celebrate my Mom. It was wonderful and I wish we could get together like that more often.

Weekly Goal: Enjoy getting to work a regular schedule for once!Image result for elegant page break clip artThis week is Spring Break here on campus, which means that the library is down to limited hours, only open 8am-5pm, so I actually get to work days (*squee*). Though getting up early sucks and it makes working out really hard (for some reason, it feels like there is never enough time in the day when I work 8am-5pm, instead of my usual 3pm-12am), I do really enjoy this schedule; mostly because I actually get to see my boyfriend more than just on the weekends and we get to eat together, which is wonderful. Looking forward to celebrating my brother’s birthday this weekend with the fam and more March Madness (let’s go, ‘Hawks!), but on top of that, I’ll focus on writing and eating well, as well as trying to save as much money as I can.

Cheers.

Quest for Discovery: Week Eleven

Hello, friends!

Just trucking along. It’s midway through March and I’m wondering, currently, why I’m shivering so much and it’s just miserable cold outside (at least, today it is). I’m definitely eager for it to be truly spring, instead of a random nice day here and there, and then I’m back to putting on a ton of different layers when I get off at midnight every night.

But, enough complaining about the weather. Let’s see how things went last week.
Image result for elegant page break clip art

Writing
Long-Term Goal: Write two new books and edit two books. Enter the query trenches.

Last Week’s Goal:  Write 6x. Continue meeting word count.

  • Status: Affirmative, Commander. It’s crazy to think that I’m at 60,000 words and I’m only 20,000 away from reaching my minimum word count goal. I love that I’ve met my word count goal every day that I’ve written in March (!!) so far and I can see the end in sight, even if it’s going to take me a little bit more to get there. Really excited to see where these scenes go, though, and how these ideas come to life on the page.

Weekly Goal: Write 6x. Continue meeting word count.

Reading
Long-Term Goal: Read every day, finishing up some old series and keeping up with new ones.

Last Week’s Goal:  Finish Blood of Assassins. Write review. Start new book.

  • Status: Affirmative, Commander. Not only did I finish Blood of Assassins, but I also finished an ARC of a book called The Hollow Tree last week. It was a good reading week.

Weekly Goal: Read Age of Myth. Write review. Go by library.

Fitness
Long-Term Goal: Continue living a healthy lifestyle and shaping a body I love and am proud of.

Last Week’s Goal: Workout 4x, log food honestly and figure out exactly how I want to try and balance cardio and strength training.

  • Status: Affirmative, Commander. Worked out 4x, though I didn’t do as much cardio as I wanted to, thanks to the colder week last week. I also haven’t figured out how to balance both strength training and cardio, because I haven’t had a week warm enough to try. (*sigh* See why I started off this post complaining about the weather?) I also ate like shit yesterday and ate way too much and have felt pretty bad about it since then, so I really got to do better eating only when I’m hungry on the weekends and not just eating like shit.

Weekly Goal: Workout 5x, log food honestly and don’t eat like a fool on the weekend.

Financial
Long-Term Goal: Learn to have a healthy relationship with money and build my savings.

Weekly Goal: Check out different credit cards and potentially apply for one.

  • Status: Affirmative, Commander. I did check out some credit cards and talked to my Mom about it, so I have some ideas in mind. Will prolly apply for one here soon.

Weekly Goal: Stay frugal and start saving to move in August.

Spiritual
Long-Term Goal: Reconnect with God and grow personally to live more like Jesus.

Last Week’s Goal: Continue praying. Find devotional book to use with Mom.

  • Status: Negative, Commander. Didn’t pray very much or find a devotional we wanted to do.

Weekly Goal: Pray.

Carpe Diem
Long-Term Goal: Find a reason to smile every day and something to get excited about weekly.

Last Week’s Goal:  Get stoked about shopping day with Mom on Saturday.

  • Status: Affirmative, Commander. And it was awesome.

Weekly Goal: Have a blast in St. Louis and enjoy the three day weekend. But also, find ways to enjoy every day of the work week, too (including celebrating my Mom’s birthday!).Image result for elegant page break clip artThis week, same focus as usual: writing and working out are my main two goals. But I also want to work on some mental health stuff. I’m pretty happy and things are pretty great, but I find myself wanting to be lazy or just get frustrated that I have to work, which isn’t exactly the healthiest mindset to be in. Sure, work isn’t always the most fun, but it’s also necessary and important, so instead of being bummed that I have to work, why not get stoked about how productive I an be or how many people I can help out? So that’s going to be a focus this week, too.

Cheers.

Quest for Discovery: Week Ten

Hello, friends!

Last week was a pretty good week, all things considered. Productive, wonderful weather that I’m already missing, as it’s predicted to drop a little bit once again this week, enjoyable and only a few little spurts of random negative emotion, here and there. I still need to work on maintaining a more happy mindset and living in the moment, but overall, I’m pretty stoked with life and where I’m at, and with all the promise the future still holds for me.Image result for elegant page break clip art

Writing
Long-Term Goal: Write two new books and edit two books. Enter the query trenches.

Last Week’s Goal: Write 6x. Continue meeting word count. Figure out guild backstory?

  • Status: Affirmative, Commander. I’m really stoked to already be at 45,000 words. And I’m about to get into the heart of the story, I think, and really start picking up the pace and the action, so I’m pretty darn stoked about that, too. Hoping the increase in action makes meeting those word count goals a little easier, for the second month working on this story!

Weekly Goal: Write 6x. Continue meeting word count.

Reading
Long-Term Goal: Read every day, finishing up some old series and keeping up with new ones.

Last Week’s Goal: Finish Kings of the Wyld. Write review. Start Blood of Assassins.

  • Status: Affirmative, Commander. Gosh, Kings of the Wyld was such a fantastic book, I had a blast writing that review. I’m about a third of the way through Blood of Assassins and I’m excited to see where this book is headed!

Weekly Goal: Finish Blood of Assassins. Write review. Start new book.

Fitness
Long-Term Goal: Continue living a healthy lifestyle and shaping a body I love and am proud of.

Last Week’s Goal: Workout 4x (and go walking, if the weather’s nice). Continue logging food honestly.

  • Status: Affirmative, Commander. I walked almost 15 miles last week, which was fantastic. I also logged my food honestly and finally resisted to have doughnuts this morning during DnD, so I’m off to a good start, this week!

Weekly Goal: Workout 4x, log food honestly and figure out exactly how I want to try and balance cardio and strength training.

Financial
Long-Term Goal: Learn to have a healthy relationship with money and build my savings.

Weekly Goal: Pay bills, pay off phone and put money into savings.

  • Status: Affirmative, Commander. It was a really sad feeling, to get paid and get my tax return all within a span of a few days, only to see all that money disappear thanks to bills and paying off a loan. But, instead, I should be thankful that money was there in the first place and I’ve been able to keep up my plan of putting $100 into savings every month so far, including March already, so I’m pretty stoked about that.

Weekly Goal: Check out different credit cards and potentially apply for one.

Spiritual
Long-Term Goal: Reconnect with God and grow personally to live more like Jesus.

Last Week’s Goal: Pray.

  • Status: Affirmative, Commander. I do still need to work on this, but I did pray at least once last week that I thought was actually a really good…prayer session, I guess you could call it. I felt like I talked with God honestly and openly, with only minimal distractions, so that was really nice.

Weekly Goal: Continue praying. Find devotional book to use with Mom.

Carpe Diem
Long-Term Goal: Find a reason to smile every day and something to get excited about weekly.

Last Week’s Goal: Smile every day.

  • Status: Affirmative, Commander.

Weekly Goal: Get stoked about shopping day with Mom on Saturday.Image result for elegant page break clip artGoing to continue working on book two in the Artemis quintet, as my goal is to reach 80,000 words by the end of this month. It’s going to be a challenge, but if I keep up with what I’ve been doing so far, I think it’s totally doable. I’m also hoping to really start adhering to a schedule, working out wise, where I start getting up on time in the mornings and get to work straight away, instead of being sluggish and sleeping in. I also want to try and make something different to eat for dinner this week, instead of my usual fare, and try to do my hair everyday.

I’m hoping, with starting out each morning with working out and doing my hair each day, I can start the day off right and continue feeling confident and productive throughout the rest of the day.

Cheers.
