Quest for Happiness: Week Thirty Two

Fitness:

  • Long-term Goal: Shape the body I want and become healthier.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Maintain weight.
    • Status: Yes…I think. I haven’t weight myself yet (I weigh on Monday mornings), so I’m tentatively saying that I’m still okay and haven’t lost or gained anything. But I never went crazy, eating wise, and I averaged roughly 7,000 steps a day, so I’m hopeful.
  • This Week’s Goal: Maintain weight. Try and run.

Writing:

  • Long-term Goal: Edit all previously written works. Query one.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Do something creative, writing wise, and stop focusing on publishing so much, but instead, writing stories that I love.
    • Status: Yes! I finally got the courage to read through the beta feedback over THE RESISTANCE and made a game plan over how to, basically, completely rewrite this book. But I’m actually excited about it, which is a great start.
  • This Week’s Goal: Figure out THE RESISTANCE plot holes and narrative mechanics.

Reading:

  • Long-term Goal: Read 60 books.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Actually finish book and post review.
    • Status: Success!
  • This Week’s Goal: Read another book. Choose which books to take on vacation.

Relaxation:

  • Long-term Goal: Create and maintain a mindset that taking care of yourself is just as important as everything else.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Enjoy the last week of summer.
    • Status: Yes. Though my weekend was shorted to only last a day, it was a lovely one.
  • This Week’s Goal: Watch Season 3 of The Musketeers.

Blogging:

  • Long-term Goal: Increase output over all three blogs, i.e., post more consistently.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Post once on each blog.
    • Status: Killed it. I posted twice on the personal blog and three times on the book blog. Yeah, last week was good for blogging.
  • This Week’s Goal: Keep up awesome streak and clean up blogs.

Financial:

  • Long-term Goal: Manage money with more awareness, start retirement fund and build savings.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Don’t go crazy when going shopping this weekend.
    • Status: Eh? I didn’t go mental and spend a shit-ton of money, but some things (like a suitcase) were a bit more expensive than I thought. We’re still doing okay, though.
  • This Week’s Goal: Double check all bills are paid.

So, I’m feeling pretty good about the strides I made last week. I’m also really jazzed because this week is the last week before I go on vacation! Which means a couple of things: one, after this week, all my blogs are going to go silent for two weeks, but I promise I’ll be back soon. Two, I may struggle really hard with actually accomplishing any other goals this week because I’ll be too busy looking up places in London. So…might have to be a little forgiving when I come back. But we’ll see!

Cheers!

Quest for Happiness: Week Thirty One

Fitness:

  • Long-term Goal: Shape the body I want and become healthier.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Be forgiving these next two weeks, but keep putting in the effort.
    • Status: Sorta? I definitely didn’t put in as much effort as I should have, especially eating well. However, I was still able to maintain, which is exactly what I want to do considering working out is off the table until next week. And I’m still trying to be forgiving and realize that even if I have a couple of weeks where I don’t do so hot, that doesn’t mean I’ll always be that way.
  • This Week’s Goal: Maintain weight.

Writing:

  • Long-term Goal: Edit all previously written works. Query one.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Work on another project, in some capacity.
    • Status: Success! I wrote a short story for the Muse’s blog that I’m a collaborator with, which you can read here.
  • This Week’s Goal: Do something creative, writing wise, and stop focusing on publishing so much, but instead, writing stories that I love.

Reading:

  • Long-term Goal: Read 60 books.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Finish Breath of Fire.
    • Status: Negative.
  • This Week’s Goal: Actually finish book and post review.

Relaxation:

  • Long-term Goal: Create and maintain a mindset that taking care of yourself is just as important as everything else.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Not panic fire as much as usual while playing Fallout 4.
    • Status: Success! I’m counting this as a success because I definitely got in some Fallout 4 playing time, but in the same vein, I also definitely kept panic firing. Damn ghouls.
  • This Week’s Goal: Enjoy the last week of summer.

Blogging:

  • Long-term Goal: Increase output over all three blogs, i.e., post more consistently.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Keep writing cool stuff on the blogs.
    • Status: Yep! I only posted once, but I’m counting it.
  • This Week’s Goal: Post once on each blog.

Financial:

  • Long-term Goal: Manage money with more awareness, start retirement fund and build savings.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Continue to stay frugal.
    • Status: Pretty much. I finally caved and bought a new pair of shoes, but otherwise, doing well.
  • This Week’s Goal: Don’t go crazy when going shopping this weekend.

Not a horrible week, considering. I’m definitely eager to get back on my normal schedule, because I feel a bit out of whack as far as accomplishing goals and fitting everything in with this off schedule I’m working. Yet I’m glad I’m still getting some things done and this week, I think the focus is just going to be enjoying the last week of summer, before the hecticness that comes with my routine returns.

Cheers.

Quest for Happiness: Week Thirty

Fitness:

  • Long-term Goal: Shape the body I want and become healthier.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Figure out how to eat so if I don’t work out, I’m still doing well and don’t go backwards.
    • Status: Negative. Still didn’t eat very well, especially towards the latter half of the week. Working a different schedule has also messed me up quite a bit. Thankfully, only two more weeks on a different schedule, which also happens to be the two weeks I need for my tattoo to heal (thus, actually being able to run again). So just need to not go overboard and not freak out if I gain a few pounds or simply maintain.
  • This Week’s Goal: Be forgiving these next two weeks, but keep putting in the effort.

Writing:

  • Long-term Goal: Edit all previously written works. Query one.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Submit into Pitch Wars!
    • Status: Done! Submitted and of course now questioning if I’ll ever have the chops to actually make it in the writing business.
  • This Week’s Goal: Work on another project, in some capacity.

Reading:

  • Long-term Goal: Read 60 books.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Read every day.
    • Status: Negative.
  • This Week’s Goal: Finish Breath of Fire.

Relaxation:

  • Long-term Goal: Create and maintain a mindset that taking care of yourself is just as important as everything else.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Swim twice.
    • Status: Negative. I didn’t go to the pool at all. *sigh* Always next summer!
  • This Week’s Goal: Not panic fire as much as usual while playing Fallout 4.

Blogging:

  • Long-term Goal: Increase output over all three blogs, i.e., post more consistently.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Post twice on the personal blog, once on the book blog.
    • Status: Almost! I posted once on the personal blog and once on the book blog, so very close.
  • This Week’s Goal: Keep writing cool stuff on the blogs.

Financial:

  • Long-term Goal: Manage money with more awareness, start retirement fund and build savings.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Stay aware and stay frugal (especially when you go grocery shopping). Also, go to retirement meeting this week
    • Status: Yes!
  • This Week’s Goal: Continue to stay frugal.

Not the best week, considering, as far as goals went. Work got ridiculously busy, but I was able to stay on top of that, which is always a top priority. As such, some goals went by the wayside. Yet a new week this week means another opportunity to continue being awesome and I’ll all about that chance.

Cheers.

Quest for Happiness: Week Twenty Nine

Fitness:

  • Long-term Goal: Shape the body I want and become healthier.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Keep up fitness routine.
    • Status: Almost. I worked out three times out of my goal of four, so not too shabby. Eating fell off the bandwagon over the weekend, as it usually does, and ended up in my progress going backward, with a pound gained. But nothing to fret about. I can get back on the grind this week!
  • This Week’s GoalFigure out how to eat so if I don’t work out, I’m still doing well and don’t go backwards.

Writing:

  • Long-term Goal: Edit all previously written works. Query one.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Complete last minute revisions.
    • Status: Yes? I didn’t go in and fix the few things I wanted to, but I did fix the first chapter, so I’m counting it.
  • This Week’s Goal: Submit into PitchWars!

Reading:

  • Long-term Goal: Read 60 books.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Finish Invasive.
    • Status: Success! And I wrote the review, to boot.
  • This Week’s Goal: Read every day.

Relaxation:

  • Long-term Goal: Create and maintain a mindset that taking care of yourself is just as important as everything else.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Swim 3x.
    • Status: Nada. This will be my last week to swim, so hopefully I can sneak in a swim or two. But I have a feeling that might not be happening because I’m already so busy this week.
  • This Week’s Goal: Swim twice.

Blogging:

  • Long-term Goal: Increase output over all three blogs, i.e., post more consistently.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Read through all of the Pitch War mentor wishlists and #PimpMyBio participants posts.
    • Status: Halfway. I did read through the mentor wishlists, but I did not read through any more participant posts, even though I wanted to. Life just got in the way, you know?
  • This Week’s Goal: Post twice on the personal blog, once on the book blog.

Financial:

  • Long-term Goal: Manage money with more awareness, start retirement fund and build savings.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Stop stressing so much about money.
    • Status: Nope. That can’t even be a short goal, that’s a lifelong, forever kinda goal.
  • This Week’s Goal: Stay aware and stay frugal (especially when you go grocery shopping). Also, go to retirement meeting this week.

Not a bad week, friends! Apologies that the post is a day late, since I usually post on Sundays. However, my work schedule is different for the next three weeks so I don’t work on Sundays (which is usually when I sneak in this post) and I spent yesterday playing D&D and didn’t get near my laptop. But it’s almost August, which is when my life gets really, really busy as work picks back up, new commitments are added and generally time just seems to slip away. So as responsibilities increase and balancing becomes an act once more, I hope to continue to keep my goals in my foresight and make strides.

Cheers.

Quest for Happiness: Week Twenty Eight

Fitness:

  • Long-term Goal: Shape the body I want and become healthier.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Workout 4x and eat well.
    • Status: Success! Somehow, I managed to work out 5x and eat pretty well, aside from Saturday. But I’m not even going to count Saturday as a mishap, because that food was damn good and sometimes, you just gotta treat yourself.
  • This Week’s GoalKeep up fitness routine.

Writing:

  • Long-term Goal: Edit all previously written works. Query one.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Finish ARTEMIS.
    • Status: Success! I finished another round of ARTEMIS!! *throws celebratory balloons* I still want to do a little bit of tidying up and double checking before I enter my MS into Pitch Wars next week, but I’m really stoked of where this draft is at.
  • This Week’s Goal: Complete last minute revisions.

Reading:

  • Long-term Goal: Read 60 books.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Finish Dark Immolation and write review.
    • Status: Success! That book was so good, friends. So, so good.
  • This Week’s Goal: Finish Invasive.

Relaxation:

  • Long-term Goal: Create and maintain a mindset that taking care of yourself is just as important as everything else.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Swim 3x.
    • Status: Success! I actually found time to swim this week, which was awesome. It was really freakin’ hot, but there’s only two more weeks until I won’t be able to swim anymore, so I’m trying to get in as much time at the pool as I can.
  • This Week’s Goal: Swim 3x.

Blogging:

  • Long-term Goal: Increase output over all three blogs, i.e., post more consistently.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Blog twice on both personal and book review blog.
    • Status: Success!
  • This Week’s Goal: Read through all of the Pitch War mentor wishlists and #PimpMyBio participants posts.

Financial:

  • Long-term Goal: Manage money with more awareness, start retirement fund and build savings.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Don’t spend any more unnecessary money the rest of the month.
    • Status: Success! Aside from going to the grocery store, I think I’ll be able to stay frugal and keep this up. Hopefully.
  • This Week’s Goal: Stop stressing so much about money.

Friends. Whoa, that was a stellar week. It’s crazy what happens when you actually focus on what you want to accomplish, instead of letting it sit in the back of your mind and then suddenly it’s Sunday and you didn’t accomplish a thing. I know not every week will be that amazing, but for now, I’m staying stoked.

Cheers.

Quest for Happiness: Week Twenty Seven

Fitness:

  • Long-term Goal: Shape the body I want and become healthier.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Workout 4x and actually log food every day.
    • Status: Almost! I did workout four times (woot!) and kept up a food diary until (you guessed it) the weekend, where I fell off the bandwagon. Again. Slow and steady, friends. I’ll figure this out.
  • This Week’s GoalWorkout 4x and eat well.

Writing:

  • Long-term Goal: Edit all previously written works. Query one.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Edit last three chapters, run-through looking for overused words and email draft to final beta reader. Write synopsis.
    • Status: Almost! Edited two chapters, so only have one more chapter to go, plus a round of searching for overused words. So close to the end of this draft!
  • This Week’s Goal: Finish ARTEMIS.

Reading:

  • Long-term Goal: Read 60 books.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Finish Dark Immolation.
    • Status: Halfway. Literally, I’m halfway done with this book. And considering it’s due in a few days, I’ll be cranking it out this week.
  • This Week’s Goal: Finish Dark Immolation and write review.

Relaxation:

  • Long-term Goal: Create and maintain a mindset that taking care of yourself is just as important as everything else.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Swim 3x.
    • Status: Nada. Damn periods.
  • This Week’s Goal: Swim 3x.

Blogging:

  • Long-term Goal: Increase output over all three blogs, i.e., post more consistently.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Blog twice on both personal and book review blog.
    • Status: Almost! I blogged twice here and once on the book review blog (which would have been twice if I’d finished reading Dark Immolation and wrote the review. Funny how the goals tie together like that).
  • This Week’s Goal: Blog twice on both personal and book review blog.

Financial:

  • Long-term Goal: Manage money with more awareness, start retirement fund and build savings.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Update budget and finances. Cancel gym membership.
    • Status: Success! Made for a depressing evening after I figured out how poor I’ll always be with student loans tying me down, but I do feel better that I’m aware of that status.
  • This Week’s Goal: Don’t spend any more unnecessary money the rest of the month.

Definitely a week where I had a lot of “almost” reaching my goals, yet still made progress on all of them, so I’m still counting it as a successful week–though all last week, I just kept feeling like I was running out of time and like a failure, for not reaching these goals but getting so close.

Yet I still have almost three weeks before Pitch Wars starts (which is the competition I want to enter ARTEMIS into), so I have plenty of time to edit that last chapter and go through it one more time to tighten up the prose. I think I’m getting into a rhythm, working out wise, so that’s really exciting. And aside from the weekends, I’m doing really well eating healthier-sized portions. As for the weekends, I just need to have some potentially awkward conversations with the people closest to me about helping me stay on track. I’m hopeful they’ll be understanding and supportive and not think me to be a health-snob, now. Still a couple weeks left of summer to swim and relax (and get my reading on). Now to tighten the reins on my spending and stay frugal before the trip and continue pushing forward with a positive mindset.

Quest for Happiness: Week Twenty Six

Fitness:

  • Long-term Goal: Shape the body I want and become healthier.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Workout 5x and stay on target with calorie goal over the weekend.
    • Status: Almost. I worked out four times, which is a lot better than last week. And I stayed on target with the calorie goal during the week, but once again, failed over the weekend. This week, I want to keep up working out and just actually log my food every day, instead of purposefully not logging it over the weekend to avoid seeing myself go over the calorie count. The goal here is, by logging it more consistently, hopefully I’ll start to actually stay on target over the weekends. Also, might need to talk with some friends/family about helping me stay on target over the weekends.
  • This Week’s GoalWorkout 4x and actually log food every day.

Writing:

  • Long-term Goal: Edit all previously written works. Query one.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Finish this round of edits on Artemis.
    • Status: Nope. I edited one chapter, but didn’t finish this round of edits like I wanted to last week. So this week, really need to get on that editing grind so I can finish this round and see if I can squeeze in one last read through and quick editing (for major mistakes only) before PitchWars starts in August.
  • This Week’s Goal: Edit last three chapters, run-through looking for overused words and email draft to final beta reader. Write synopsis.

Reading:

  • Long-term Goal: Read 60 books.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Read Dark Immolation.
    • Status: Nada. I hardly read at all. Must fix.
  • This Week’s Goal: Finish Dark Immolation.

Relaxation:

  • Long-term Goal: Create and maintain a mindset that taking care of yourself is just as important as everything else.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Swim 3x and finish Sherlock.
    • Status: Nada. The pool was closed, so that was ruined. And I didn’t watch Sherlock, but played a little ESO instead.
  • This Week’s Goal: Swim 3x.

Blogging:

  • Long-term Goal: Increase output over all three blogs, i.e., post more consistently.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Blog twice on both personal and book review blog.
    • Status: Yep! I blogged twice here and blogged once over at the Book Review blog, but forgot that the new tag I’m doing there (Top Ten Tuesday) paused until August, so that was the second post I planned to write but didn’t. Yet I’m counting it anyway.
  • This Week’s Goal: Blog twice on both personal and book review blog.

Financial:

  • Long-term Goal: Manage money with more awareness, start retirement fund and build savings.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Stay on budget.
    • Status: Negative. I hate trying to not spend money but then spending a bunch of money and then being stressed about money. Definitely need to go back through and look at my budget and rework it so I actually, you know, don’t go over it and find a budget that works.
  • This Week’s Goal: Update budget and finances. Cancel gym membership.

Both a hit and a miss kind of week. Did pretty well fitness wise and killed it blogging wise. Reading was a fail and writing could have been better. This week, definitely focusing on the writing, mainly, but hoping to keep up with everything else, as well. But at the same time, as summer is slipping away and coming to a close (which I can tell because my schedule is looming and about to fill up again), I also want to keep relaxing and just enjoying the non-hecticness of life for a bit, before it gets mental again.

You might also have noticed that I edited my long-term writing goal for this year. Stay tuned for a blog post about that this week.

Cheers.
