Quest for Happiness: Week Forty One

Fitness:

  • Long-term Goal: Shape the body I want and become healthier.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Keep it up.
    • Status: Success! Combo of running and walking last week, plus ate pretty well. Period hit over the weekend, though, so that definitely wasn’t the best, eating or working out wise, but I’m hormonal, cramping and bleeding. I think I can cut myself some slack, here.
  • This Week’s Goal: Keep working out and enjoying this nice weather while it lasts. Make something new to eat this week.

Writing:

  • Long-term Goal: Edit all previously written works. Query one.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Finish Color Psychology. Write chapter one.
    • Status: SUCCESS. Prolly write a blog post about this, but I’m really stoked that I wrote 4,000 words last week.
  • This Week’s Goal: Write 5x and keep up word count goal.

Reading:

  • Long-term Goal: Read 60 books.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Continue reading KotW. 
    • Status: Success! Finished book, wrote review and started another!
  • This Week’s Goal: Finish Something Beautiful and write review.

Relaxation:

  • Long-term Goal: Create and maintain a mindset that taking care of yourself is just as important as everything else.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Enjoy the hell out of hanging out with friends this weekend. Plus, GEOSTORM.
    • Status: Freakin’ success. That was a pretty awesome weekend.
  • This Week’s Goal: Enjoy the nice weather before it disappears into misery.

Blogging:

  • Long-term Goal: Increase output over all three blogs, i.e., post more consistently.
  • Last Week’s Goal:  Keep up blogging routine.
    • Status: Success! 
  • This Week’s Goal: Keep blogging. Update bio and layout.

Financial:

  • Long-term Goal: Manage money with more awareness, start retirement fund and build savings.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Stay frugal.
    • Status: Pretty decent. Spent a little money, but no more than I planned to, this weekend.
  • This Week’s Goal: Continue to stay on top of it. Create a Christmas budget.

Pretty stoked about my progress and things are pushing forward.

Last week, I actually lost half a pound after having a couple weeks in a row stagnant and maintaining (which I can’t complain about, by any means). Definitely going to have to stay on top of my food intake and running routine if I want to lose these last ten pounds to reach my ultimate weight loss goal. Also stoked that I’m finally writing another novel again and, after getting some feedback from a friend, have an idea how to improve my favorite novel that I’ve written. Also stoked to have found some reading grooves again.

Basically, life’s pretty sweet right now, and that’s really freakin’ awesome.

Quest for Happiness: Week Forty

Fitness:

  • Long-term Goal: Shape the body I want and become healthier.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Look up some different strengthening stretches. Keep up routine.
    • Status: Success! I ran four times and walked once, so that was awesome. Also managed to find some different stretches I might start incorporating.
  • This Week’s Goal: Keep it up.

Writing:

  • Long-term Goal: Edit all previously written works. Query one.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Finish outline, figure out some details and read another section in Color Psychology.
    • Status: Success! I’m really excited about the progress being made and I think…I might it might be time to start writing again.
  • This Week’s Goal: Finish Color Psychology. Write chapter one.

Reading:

  • Long-term Goal: Read 60 books.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Finish the second book in the Gentlemen’s Bastard series and write review.
    • Status: SUCCESS. I’ve been getting back into the reading groove, friends, and my my, what a freakin’ ending that was.
  • This Week’s Goal: Continue reading KotW. 

Relaxation:

  • Long-term Goal: Create and maintain a mindset that taking care of yourself is just as important as everything else.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Find a reason to smile every single day.
    • Status: Success. The smiles and laughter outweighed the tears last week, which, in my book, is always a win.
  • This Week’s Goal: Enjoy the hell out of hanging out with friends this weekend. Plus, GEOSTORM.

Blogging:

  • Long-term Goal: Increase output over all three blogs, i.e., post more consistently.
  • Last Week’s Goal:  Post twice on each blog.
    • Status: Success!
  • This Week’s Goal: Keep up blogging routine.

Financial:

  • Long-term Goal: Manage money with more awareness, start retirement fund and build savings.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Need to look into the bank account again, especially after a weekend of some really fun adventures that I certainly enjoyed, but wasn’t expecting to take out of my wallet.
    • Status: Success. Not doing as badly as I thought. But with the holidays coming up (not to mention a sleeve I wanted to get colored in), I really want to be on top of my money so I can actually get people awesome stuff for Christmas.
  • This Week’s Goal: Stay frugal.

A pretty solid week, friends. A pretty solid week. Time to continue the grind, keep being productive, continue being happy and continue finding ways to challenge myself and grow.

Quest for Happiness: Week Thirty Nine

Fitness:

  • Long-term Goal: Shape the body I want and become healthier.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Workout 4x, log food and keep up new routine.
    • Status: Success! Thanks to a really rainy week, I ended up walking twice and running twice, but I was still getting active, which is the most important thing. Didn’t do the best, food wise, towards the end of the week, but excited to keep at it this week.
  • This Week’s Goal: Look up some different strengthening stretches. Keep up routine.

Writing:

  • Long-term Goal: Edit all previously written works. Query one.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Keep up new schedule, keep fleshing out the outline and start reading one of the novels I checked out for research.
    • Status: Success! Really glad I’ve been able to keep up the writing routine in the evenings.
  • This Week’s Goal: Finish outline, figure out some details and read another section in Color Psychology.

Reading:

  • Long-term Goal: Read 60 books.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Read every night.
    • Status: Success! Still haven’t finished a book in ages, but I have been sneaking in some more writing time.
  • This Week’s Goal: Finish the second book in the Gentlemen’s Bastard series and write review.

Relaxation:

  • Long-term Goal: Create and maintain a mindset that taking care of yourself is just as important as everything else.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Enjoy this beautiful fall weather.
    • Status: Yes? It rained most of the week, but that is fall for you, so…
  • This Week’s Goal: Find a reason to smile every single day.

Blogging:

  • Long-term Goal: Increase output over all three blogs, i.e., post more consistently.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Keep killing it on the blogs.
    • Status: Success! 
  • This Week’s Goal: Post twice on each blog.

Financial:

  • Long-term Goal: Manage money with more awareness, start retirement fund and build savings.
  • Last Week’s Goal: See if I can put some money away in savings this week.
    • Status: Negative. 
  • This Week’s Goal: Need to look into the bank account again, especially after a weekend of some really fun adventures that I certainly enjoyed, but wasn’t expecting to take out of my wallet.

Now that the fall semester is completely underway, I think I’m finding getting my routine underway. Of course, every week presents its own challenges and hurdles, but I’m glad I’ve found a routine that, generally, works for me. The plan is to keep on expanding and evolving so I can keep up progress on these goals.

Quest for Happiness: Week Thirty Eight

Fitness:

  • Long-term Goal: Shape the body I want and become healthier.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Workout 4x, log food and try out new schedule/routine.
    • Status: Success! Even though I only worked out three times, I still kept up with the schedule that I adjusted to last week and it felt amazing. This week, trying to mp it up to four days doing the same thing.
  • This Week’s Goal: Workout 4x, log food and keep up new routine.

Writing:

  • Long-term Goal: Edit all previously written works. Query one.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Try out new writing schedule, fix at least one plot hole, map out main character and research one thing.
    • Status: Success! Similar to working out, I didn’t exactly meet every goal that I wanted to, but I also sat my ass down in a chair and worked on trying to figure this story out, which I’m going to count. Plus, got some research done and am considering some different ideas of how exactly this story needs to be told, and that amount of outlining and brainstorming isn’t the easiest to track, success wise.
  • This Week’s Goal: Keep up new schedule, keep fleshing out the outline and start reading one of the novels I checked out for research.

Reading:

  • Long-term Goal: Read 60 books.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Actually finish this dang book. 
    • Status: Negative. I really, really need to make reading important again.
  • This Week’s Goal: Read every night.

Relaxation:

  • Long-term Goal: Create and maintain a mindset that taking care of yourself is just as important as everything else.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Have fun at the Blues Game!
    • Status: The utmost success. Blues date night was the best win of the week, even if we ended up losing with 4.3 seconds left in the 3rd period.
  • This Week’s Goal: Enjoy this beautiful fall weather.

Blogging:

  • Long-term Goal: Increase output over all three blogs, i.e., post more consistently.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Keep up blogging routine.
    • Status: Success! I’m really digging the consistency I’ve had posting on both blogs. Hoping to keep it up!
  • This Week’s Goal: Keep killing it on the blogs.

Financial:

  • Long-term Goal: Manage money with more awareness, start retirement fund and build savings.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Pay rent.
    • Status: Success (though part of me wishes this was one goal I didn’t have to meet, because ouch, my poor bank account).
  • This Week’s Goal: See if I can put some money away in savings this week.

So, after the laziness I experienced last week, I sat down and wrote out a rough idea of my weekly schedule and then plotted in times to write and run: the two most important things to me. And it made a huge difference. I’m hoping I can keep up that schedule as it continues to get busier throughout the year, because it’s crazy how much my happiness is tied into how often I run and how often I write.

Quest for Happiness: Week Thirty Seven

Fitness:

  • Long-term Goal: Shape the body I want and become healthier.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Workout 4x and log food. Keep up new stretching/toning routine.
    • Status: Negative. I worked out twice and logged my food mostly, but I definitely ate horribly last week and completely failed at keeping up the new stretching/toning routine. Tied at the top for my main focus this week (with writing).
  • This Week’s Goal: Workout 4x, log food and try out new schedule/routine.

Writing:

  • Long-term Goal: Edit all previously written works. Query one.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Recreate writing routine, figure out plot holes and learn about my main character.
    • Status: Negative. 
  • This Week’s Goal: Try out new writing schedule, fix at least one plot hole, map out main character and research one thing.

Reading:

  • Long-term Goal: Read 60 books.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Finish Red Seas Under Red Skies.
    • Status: Negative. 
  • This Week’s GoalActually finish this dang book. 

Relaxation:

  • Long-term Goal: Create and maintain a mindset that taking care of yourself is just as important as everything else.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Play some Strikes with my Clan.
    • Status: Success! We even did a compete Crucible match which was actually really fun (and I even finished second on the list in terms of efficiency and number of kills, which is…unheard of).
  • This Week’s Goal: Have fun at the Blues Game!

Blogging:

  • Long-term Goal: Increase output over all three blogs, i.e., post more consistently.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Two posts on each blog.
    • Status: Success! Even wrote a bonus third one of the personal blog.
  • This Week’s Goal: Keep up blogging routine.

Financial:

  • Long-term Goal: Manage money with more awareness, start retirement fund and build savings.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Pay bills for next month and stay frugal.
    • Status: Success! 
  • This Week’s Goal: Pay rent.

Not the best week, yet not the worst week, either. I did have a massive To-Do list last week and was impressed that I managed to almost cross everything off of it–with the notable exception of working out and writing. So while I can’t really label last week as a bust, I’m definitely very conscious (perhaps over conscious) of those two missing elements from my life and I need them to be present this week.

Quest for Happiness: Week Thirty Six

Fitness:

  • Long-term Goal: Shape the body I want and become healthier.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Workout 4x, log food, meet target calorie count and look up some different exercises to start toning the muscles.
    • Status: Almost! I was able to workout four times, though one of those times was a walk instead of a run (yet it still counts). I logged my food during the work week and mostly met my target calorie count. I didn’t look up any exercises to help tone, but I did start incorporating some old ones into my stretching routine, so all-in-all, I think not a bad week.
  • This Week’s Goal: Workout 4x and log food. Keep up new stretching/toning routine.

Writing:

  • Long-term Goal: Edit all previously written works. Query one.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Recreating writing routine and start drafting outline for the new RESISTANCE rework.
    • Status: Sorta! I did spent an afternoon and plotted out a lot of the backstory and created a very rough outline of the plot. However, I didn’t really recreate a writing routine at all; still need to figure that out.
  • This Week’s Goal: Recreate writing routine, figure out plot holes and learn about my main character.

Reading:

  • Long-term Goal: Read 60 books.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Finish Red Seas Under Red Skies.
    • Status: Negative. I read once last week. Yeah…
  • This Week’s Goal: Finish Red Seas Under Red Skies.

Relaxation:

  • Long-term Goal: Create and maintain a mindset that taking care of yourself is just as important as everything else.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Reach Level 15 with my Awoken Hunter.
    • Status: Success! My day off Friday was beautiful in that I woke up and pretty much played Destiny 2 until I went back to sleep again (with a small break to play some D&D with friends). So now I’m up to Level 20 and can actually help my clan do shit.
  • This Week’s Goal: Play some Strikes with my Clan.

Blogging:

  • Long-term Goal: Increase output over all three blogs, i.e., post more consistently.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Catch up on all the awesome posts I missed, plus perhaps write a few of my own.  
    • Status: Success! 
  • This Week’s Goal: Two posts on each blog.

Financial:

  • Long-term Goal: Manage money with more awareness, start retirement fund and build savings.
  • Last Week’s Goal: Recalculate budget and get back to being frugal.
    • Status: Success! Aside from a few one-time purchases I had to made (i.e., renew my PS+ account), I stayed on budget. Hoping to continue to stay frugal and start building my savings again.
  • This Week’s Goal: Pay bills for next month and stay frugal.

Not a bad week after getting back from vacation, I must say. As my To-Do Lists continue to get longer, not shorter, I’m hopeful that I can actually keep up with the progress and maintain a motivated, go-getter attitude I had most of the week last week.

Quest for Happiness: Week Thirty Five

Now wait a second, you might be thinking. There’s something missing

You’d be right. If you follow this Resolutions Series regularly, you’ll have noticed that the last time I posted was on week Thirty Two. You might also remember that I went out of town and disappeared entirely from every avenue, including this blog. Hence why we’re suddenly at Week 35 (also, how is it September already??). It’s also the reason why all of the “Last Week’s Goals” portions are blank this time around, because honestly, I can’t remember whether I completed those goals or not.

Jetlag does that to you.

But now that I’m back, I’m eager and ready to get back into the swing of things, which most definitely includes both kicking ass and struggling to achieve these goals.

Fitness:

  • Long-term Goal: Shape the body I want and become healthier.
  • Last Week’s Goal: N/A.
    • Status: So while on vacation and eating out for every meal for two weeks, I was prepared to gain back some weight and have some work to do when I got home. Luckily, London involves a lot of walking, so even though I was the ultimate pastry taster, I still managed to lose a pound over those two weeks and am right on track to keep up my fitness goals. Now to get back into the working out routine.
  • This Week’s Goal: Workout 4x, log food, meet target calorie count and look up some different exercises to start toning the muscles.

Writing:

  • Long-term Goal: Edit all previously written works. Query one.
  • Last Week’s Goal: N/A.
    • Status: Obviously didn’t do any writing, but I did think about the novel I want to rewrite a lot while I was gone. Now that summer is over and I’ve gone on vacation, my schedule should be pretty regular for the rest of the year. Which means my writing should be, too.
  • This Week’s Goal: Recreating writing routine and start drafting outline for the new RESISTANCE rework.

Reading:

  • Long-term Goal: Read 60 books.
  • Last Week’s Goal: N/A.
    • Status: I did have a streak there for a while of reading much more consistently than I have been of late, even before I went out of town. I’d read during meals and during lulls, even if it was only 10 minutes here and there. Which would add up and let me read a lot more books than I am now. I miss that. So I hope to get back into the routine of reading more often.
  • This Week’s Goal: Finish Red Seas Under Red Skies.

Relaxation:

  • Long-term Goal: Create and maintain a mindset that taking care of yourself is just as important as everything else.
  • Last Week’s Goal: N/A.
    • Status: Now that I’m in the mood to hunker down on my workout and writing goals, I also have to remember to fit in some time to relax, which for me, mainly comes in the form of video games. And considering Destiny 2 came out while I was abroad and all my friends are way ahead of me in levels, I have some catching up to do.
  • This Week’s Goal: Reach Level 15 with my Awoken Hunter.

Blogging:

  • Long-term Goal: Increase output over all three blogs, i.e., post more consistently.
  • Last Week’s Goal: N/A.
    • Status: I definitely missed reading blogs and writing my own. I hope to keep up some of the productivity I had on my better weeks over the summer as the semester gets underway, as well as increasing my interaction with the community.
  • This Week’s Goal: Catch up on all the awesome posts I missed, plus perhaps write a few of my own.  

Financial:

  • Long-term Goal: Manage money with more awareness, start retirement fund and build savings.
  • Last Week’s Goal: N/A.
    • Status: After spending so much money on vacation, I’m ready to get back into the frugal mindset–especially because I also want to finish my sleeve by the end of the year and that’s a bit pricey. Time to go back to the drawing board and figure out a game plan.
  • This Week’s Goal: Recalculate budget and get back to being frugal.  

Time to chase after goals and achieve dreams. It’s good to be back, friends.
